Xequted: The MMORPG market has clearly become a saturated genre since the launch of early games like EverQuest and Ultima Online. What do you think the key factor has been in distinguishing City of Heroes from so many other Massively Multiplayer games?
Jack: Saturated? Hmmmm. Compare how many MMP’s there are to say, how many RTS games are released in a given year. Or how many FPS games are released. Also, examine the numbers – every time a new MMP is released, other games suffer somewhat, but NOT as much as the growth of the new game. In other words, some subscribers cancel in order to play the latest, greatest MMP, but new games inevitably attract new customers.
The two things that stand out about City of Heroes are its genre (masked heroes) and its accessibility. Because City of Heroes stresses fun from minute one, it’s immediately enjoyable.
